Woodford Reserve's stone distillery sits on Glenn's Creek outside Versailles, on a site where bourbon has been made since the 1800s. It is a National Historic Landmark, it distills in copper pot stills, and it is the official bourbon of the Kentucky Derby, which is why it shows up in so many Derby weekend plans.

Half the pleasure is the drive. The last miles run past black-fenced horse farms, and we time the day so you see them at their best instead of rushing to make a tour.

Yes. Woodford Reserve is the official bourbon of the Kentucky Derby, and a visit pairs well with a Derby weekend or any spring trip.

Often, yes. Versailles and Midway sit in the middle of horse country, so we can add a farm visit or a drive past the farms, depending on the season and each farm's schedule.

Spring and fall are the prettiest on the drive, with foals in the fields in spring and color in the trees in October. Derby week and Keeneland's race meets are the busiest, so book further ahead then.
