A Bardstown visit to the family-run distillery behind the pot-still bottle.
Willett is a family-run distillery on a hill just outside Bardstown, known for small batches and for the Willett Pot Still Reserve bottle, shaped like a copper pot still. The family founded the distillery in the 1930s, and it still feels like a family place: a hillside campus, old rickhouses and a tasting room that rewards questions.
Tours are smaller than at the big distilleries, so reservations matter, and we plan the rest of the Bardstown day around the time we get.
About 50 minutes. Willett is just outside Bardstown, south of Louisville.
Small-batch bourbon and rye, and the Willett Pot Still Reserve bottle, which is shaped like a pot still. It is a favorite of collectors.
Heaven Hill and Barton 1792 are minutes away in Bardstown, and Maker's Mark is about 25 minutes farther south in Loretto.
Yes. Willett is one of the most collected names in bourbon, and the gift shop sometimes carries bottles that are hard to find elsewhere. We leave time for a look.
Madeline & Mose is an independent Louisville concierge. Tours at Willett are run and priced by the distillery under its own policies; we reserve them for you and plan the day around them. Willett is a trademark of its owner.
