A private drive to Star Hill Farm with your tour reserved and the afternoon left open.
Maker's Mark sits on Star Hill Farm outside Loretto, a cluster of brown buildings with red shutters along a creek. It is known for its wheated bourbon and the red wax dipped by hand on every bottle, and in the gift shop you can dip your own. The campus is a National Historic Landmark, and one of its warehouses holds a ceiling of Chihuly glass that stops nearly everyone in their tracks.
Loretto is farther out than most distilleries, so the plan matters. The drive runs through Bardstown, which makes it easy to add a second stop on the way home.
About an hour and fifteen minutes. Maker's Mark is in Loretto, south of Bardstown, so most guests make it a full day with a second stop.
Yes. Visitors can buy a bottle in the gift shop and hand-dip it in the signature red wax. We leave time for it, because almost everyone wants to.
Bardstown is on the way, with Heaven Hill, Willett and Barton 1792 close together and good lunch spots around Court Square.
Yes. The distillery has a restaurant on the grounds, and Bardstown is about 25 minutes north if you would rather have lunch in town. We book whichever suits the day.
Madeline & Mose is an independent Louisville concierge. Tours at Maker's Mark are run and priced by the distillery under its own policies; we reserve them for you and plan the day around them. Maker's Mark is a trademark of its owner.
