Stitzel-Weller opened on Derby Day in 1935 under Julian “Pappy” Van Winkle Sr., and its wheated bourbons became the stuff of collector legend. Distilling stopped there in the early 1990s, but the grounds, rickhouses and history remain, and today the site is home to the Bulleit Frontier Whiskey Experience.

It is close enough to downtown to pair with a Whiskey Row afternoon, and far enough off the usual path that it feels like a find.
