A small working distillery in a restored downtown building, with a bar upstairs for a nightcap.
Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery occupies a restored nineteenth-century building at the west end of Whiskey Row, at Main and Eighth. Inside is a small working distillery and, upstairs, Bar Fort Nelson, which makes it as good for an evening as for an afternoon tour.
Michter's does most of its distilling at a larger plant outside downtown, so Fort Nelson is about the craft and the setting: copper stills, old brick and a tasting room that feels like a private club.
At Main and Eighth Streets in downtown Louisville, at the west end of Whiskey Row.
Yes. Bar Fort Nelson is upstairs. Hours vary, so we confirm them for your date and plan a cocktail after your tour.
Evan Williams and Old Forester are a short walk east along Main Street, so Michter's works well as the first or last stop of a Whiskey Row afternoon.
Yes. Tours are small and the building has a private feel. For larger groups we reserve early or split the group across two tour times.
Madeline & Mose is an independent Louisville concierge. Tours at Michter's Fort Nelson are run and priced by the distillery under its own policies; we reserve them for you and plan the day around them. Michter's Fort Nelson is a trademark of its owner.
